Paying for AI love: Grok’s new ‘Companion Mode’
I just saw xAI’s latest update for Grok Imagine 1.0. They’re calling it “immersive,” but let’s be real—it’s a 3D anime girlfriend that lives in your phone. And people are paying $30 a month for it.

The tech is impressive, sure. The audio sync is perfect, and they even remember your “anniversary.” But I can’t help but feel we’re just outsourcing our loneliness to a GPU farm in Texas.
Is this the future of dating? A monthly subscription to someone who never disagrees with you? Feels a bit empty if you ask me.

Alex’s Take
The more “realistic” these AI companions get, the more I miss real human messiness. A bot that loves you by default isn’t love—it’s just a well-programmed feedback loop. Just me?
